Project Koru's response to COVID-19

Because Project Koru considers each and every supporter an integral part of our organization, we want to inform you of some unfortunate news. Myself, along the our program director Lindsey Walkemeyer, board of directors and medical director have made the decision to cancel Project Koru Spring Programming. This includes our Snow Camp in Mt. Hood, Oregon (March 30-April 5, 2020) and Surf Camp in Maui, Hawaii (May 17-23, 2020).

This is a precautionary response to the continued spread and uncertainty of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). At Project Koru we care deeply for the holistic well-being and safety of each of our participants and staff and with the potential of increased risk for those that have undergone immunocompromising therapies and procedures, we desire to err on the side of caution. As you are aware, many of our trips include long distance air travel as well communal living and at a time when there are some unknowns, we want to set up our community for health, safety, and ease and this decision aligns best with that value.

What this means moving forward is that we will be shifting our spring programming to fall with the addition of camps to the fall lineup. We have also given those participants that were scheduled to attend this spring's camps priority to attend in the fall or spring 2021.

Because social challenges and establishing a sense of community are something young adult cancer survivors face, Lindsey and I are swiftly working to create virtual programming in order to still serve our population of young adult cancer survivors during this time of recommended social distancing. Project Koru’s core values of community, empowerment and adventure will hold strong during these difficult times!

We will continue monitoring the status of the affect of the virus and we will update you if additional changes must be made.

We thank you so much for your continued support of Project Koru. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any feedback, discussion, or any other way you’d like to support the organization though this difficult time.

Peace and good (vi)bes,

Beth "Vi" Peck
